After almost a two year hiatus, we are excited,to announce that in February, HipHopSince1987.com will present CAN I KICK IT : HIP-HOP SHOWCASE & FESTIVAL AT THE CASTLE ( 612 COURT STREET PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA ). Can I Kick It is one of the fastest growing hip-hop festivals in the US and takes place twice annually. CIKI was started in 2011 and gets it’s inspiration from A Tribe Called Quest‘s classic single “Can I Kick It?” off their debut LP People’s Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm (1991). Created by hip-hop curator @QuinelleHolder and Virginia socialite @EverettBanks.

Although, we have just really started to gain a following our first event was exceptionally successful and due to popular demand forced us to continue with part two of our local hip-hop expo. No Malice ( The Clipse & Play Cloths ) , Radeo Shack ( Hot 91 FM ), and Soul Brother’s Skate Shop all helped sponsor and support our premier endeavor CAN I KICK IT PT. 1 | SUMMER in 2011. We followed up our summer edition and ended that year by hosting CAN I KICK IT PT. 2 | WINTER, one of the largest hip-hop showcases VA had ever seen. The event reached capacity in the first hour and was headlined by Illusive Media’s artist Mass & hometown favorite Intalek. Honestly, for the Hampton Roads area that's pretty commendable, but we want to take it to the next level, that's where you come in. As I'm sure you're aware, ATCQ recently performed the first of their last two shows ever on the second night of the Kanye West's Yeezus tour at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. The legendary performance combined with the 20th Anniversary of Midnight Marauders, which included the hit single"Award Tour" their highest charting single to date, has caused the group to be extremely relevant at this time. In the spirit of giving back we want to conduct a Sneaker Drive For Less Fortunate Kids in the DMV ( DC , Maryland, and Virginia ) area in conjunction with the showcase. We have also contacted Vodkila, Profound Aesthetic, FLüD Watches and Reebok Classics, hopefully we can all join forces and make history in honor of the hip-hop pioneers. If you rap, sing, dance, DJ or any other form of entertainment we are looking for. If you own or represent a company or brand we are looking for you. If you are a local taste-maker, natural born leader or just all around cool individual we are looking for you. This collaborative effort would really bring some spotlight to Virginia's Hampton Roads Area and mean so much to us; any accommodations that need to be made to make this happen please feel free to contact us asap so arrangements can be made.
